Sheryl Sturrock, a resident of Chesterton, passed away Saturday, September 30, 2023 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Sheryl Sturrock was born on August 26, 1963 in Derby, Connecticut. She was the loving and only daughter of Shirley and John Vena and the sister of John, James and Vincent Vena. She grew up in Shelton, Connecticut and graduated from Shelton High in 1981. Sheryl met the love of her life, Dwight Sturrock at church and they were married on December 28, 1985 and had 37 wonderful years together. They attended First Baptist Church of Hammond together for 39 years. She was the loving mother to six children: Daniel, Sarah, Rachael, Bethany, Josiah and Hannah. She also had three son in laws and one daughter in law. She was a wonderful “Mama” to eight grandchildren: Savannah, Nicholas, Eijah, Aria, Joren, Ava, Lucas and Levi. She was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Vena, her father in law, David Sturrock, her mother in law, Avon Sturrock and her son in law, Nicholas Hartlein. Sheryl loved God, her family and music. She loved date nights with her husband, sailing on Dwight’s boat, spending time with her family and sharing the Gospel. She enjoyed singing in the soprano section of the choir at her church each Sunday. Sheryl was a loving person who knew no stranger. She made friends everywhere she went. Her family joked that the cashier at the grocery store knew her life story. She was diagnosed with myelofibrosis in 2007 and fought that battle with strength, grace and courage. Although she was in pain daily for most of the last 10 years, she still found time to share her love of Jesus and to give so much of her time and energy to others. She wanted her stem cell transplant to bring praise to Jesus and glorify God, regardless of the outcome. Her beautiful smile and joyful spirit lit up a room wherever she went. She will be remembered by her family as a beautiful, loving and giving person whose love for Jesus overflowed to those around her. There will be a visitation on Thursday, October 5, 2023 from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Memory Lane Funeral Home 6305 W Lincoln Hwy Crown Point, IN 46307. Burial to follow.
