Daphne A Murzyn, Dyer, IN 71, passed away February 25, 2026 after fighting a 2 1/2 year courageous battle against Acute Myeloid Leukemia. She is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Gregory; loving mother of Megan (Christopher) Cailles of Schererville and Amanda (Douglas) Van Til of Crown Point; five grandchildren: Brody Cailles, Zachary Cailles, Mabel Van Til, Ella Van Til and Libby Van Til. Daphne was a big sister to Kristen (Mark) Verchick of Santa Clarita, California, Peter (Jeannette) Douglas of Schererville and Christ (Robin Buchler) Douglas of Schererville. Preceded in death by her parents, John and Elaine Douglas of Schererville. Daphne was fortunate to have a large widespread family including nieces and nephews residing across the country. Daphne was known for her easygoing demeanor and inclusive “all are welcome” kindness. Daphne was a long time member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, volunteering many hours in Sunday School and the yearly Christmas mitten tree. Daphne put faith and family first and inspired her children and others around her to do the same. She was happiest when surrounded by her family, frequenting her grandsons many swim meets and granddaughters softball games. A yearly highlight is the annual family trip to Michigan, growing to 25 plus family members just wanting to simply be together. She enjoyed traveling and frequently entertained us with stories of her adventures. She enjoyed and excelled at hosting family dinners, holidays and impromptu gatherings. She was a talented cook with many of her recipes and variations of traditional Greek dishes becoming family favorites. She made entertaining a large crowd look easy. Daphne worked for many years at Strack and Van Til’s in Schererville as a Head Cake Decorator/Assistant Bakery Manager and after retirement, was a Barista at Starbucks in Dyer. Customers greatly appreciated her friendliness, attention to detail and dedication to customer service. A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, March 3, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 7021 Hohman Ave, Hammond, IN with Rev. David Bissias officiating. Burial at Memory Lane Memorial Park, 6305 W Lincoln Hwy (US 30), Crown Point, IN. Visitation will be held Monday, March 2, from 4-8 p.m. at Memory Lane Funeral Home, 6305 W Lincoln Hwy. (US30), Crown Point IN.
