Steven Herrmann

While his wife Gloria sat next to his hospital bed, Steven Herrmann breathed his first celestial breath early Saturday morning as the sun rose here in Merrillville, Steve woke up in Heaven. Steve was the fifth of seven children and grew up in Brooklyn, NY. After returning from serving our country in the Vietnam War, he moved across the country to Tucson, AZ. There he met and married his first wife, Judith, and they had one daughter Marriah. While watching a television preacher one morning, he placed his hand on the tv and received Christ as his Savior. After his first wife passed away, he moved to Dos Cabezas and married Gloria. Together they had three children, Stephen, Jamie, and Simon. His first Sunday with Gloria, as she got ready for church, he asked “where are you going?” She said, “church.” A little While later, Gloria noticed he had changed his clothes and she asked, “where are you going?” He replied, “church.” Thus began his journey to serve The Lord. Steve and his family moved to Merrillville, IN to go to Hyles-Anderson College. Upon graduation, he decided to stay in the area and serve. He pastored a chapel in Chicago Heights for several years as well as served as a bus driver for many ministries, most recently the lighthouse ministry. Steve also served as deacon at FBC Hammond for several years and many will remember his friendly smile and greeting as he ushered on the westside of the auditorium. He will be well remembered for his generosity and willingness to help anyone in need. If there was a workday or an event, he would be there helping and serving many times while in great pain and/or poor health. Steve has always used his talents of carpentry to help The Lord’s work. From building an auditorium in Wilcox, AZ, to helping build and remodel many of the buildings at FBC Hammond to going to foreign fields and helping missionaries, he has blessed and influenced countless ministries. He is survived by his loving wife Gloria. He is also survived by children Marriah Cuadrado, Stephen Herrmann, Jamie Favor, and Simon Herrmann. He leaves behind twelve grandchildren and one great grandson. There will be a Visitation on Friday, June 19, 2026 at Memory Lane Funeral Home 6305 W. Lincoln Hwy Crown Point, Indiana from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. The Funeral Service will follow the visitation at 1 p.m. with Pastor John Wilkerson officiating.
