Calvin David Schulz, age 70, of Highland, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 2, 2024. Calvin is survived by his wife, Olga; son, Jacob Schulz; three daughters, Rachel Sumner (Steve), Elizabeth Schulz, and Hannah O’Kelly (Chris); step-daughter, Antonia Danylov (Oleg); eight grandchildren, Madison, Katherine, Liam, Norah, Ella, Jeanie, Peyton-James, and David; siblings, Mary Ann, Connie, Nancy, and Dale; and several nieces and nephews and extended family. He is preceded in death by his former wife, Katherine Schulz; sister, Marlene; and his parents, Calvin and Jean Schulz. Calvin David Schulz was born on November 4, 1953, in Ogallala, Nebraska to Calvin and Jean Schulz. He went by his middle name, David, to his family and friends of his youth. After turning four years old, his family would relocate to Colorado, settling in Fort Collins where he would graduate high school. When he was 19 years of age, he watched a Billy Graham rally on television; after which he would dedicate his life to God. A few years later he would attend Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO where he would also meet his wife, Katherine Goodall. They married in 1980 and had four children. He and his wife, Katherine, would later work in various churches and Christian ministries throughout their marriage, including Milford Christian Academy in Delaware, Grace Baptist School in Illinois, and then settling in Hammond, Indiana, where they would last serve. Katherine went to heaven in 2008. He would continue to serve and lead his family despite this hard loss. He married his second wife, Olga, in 2014. They have a grandson through her daughter, whom Calvin and Olga enjoyed visiting overseas in Montenegro. Calvin was most proud of the work that he did as a principal and teacher. He loved working in youth and church ministries alongside his family. He also enjoyed various pastimes like rooting for the Nebraska Huskers and the Denver Broncos Football, riding his motorcycle, and being a handyman around the house. He always believed that if he could fix it or build it himself, he would certainly try. Most recently known as Papa, Calvin had eight grandchildren. He enjoyed spending his time watching their sports games and spoiling them with treats and gifts. The greatest dad to the end, Calvin never hesitated to give of his time, talent, and love to his children and their families, and really anybody that knew him or needed him. His favorite Bible passages were Isaiah 40:31 and Psalm 19:7-10. Calvin will be laid to rest at Memory Lane in Schererville next to his wife Katherine Hope.
