James Williams

James L. Williams, also known as Jim, Dad and Pappaw, of Highland, IN, formerly of Wheelersburg, OH, Fostoria, OH, Findlay, OH, and Merrillville, IN passed away in the early morning hours on Friday, March 29, 2024. Many people remarked about the beautiful sunrise and the beautiful clouds as Jim traded his earthly life for his eternal home. Jim was born on October 15, 1934, to Allen and Hazel (Chamberlain) Williams, Sr. in Scioto County, OH. On January 21, 1956 he married Alice Ruth Gee. Jim is survived by wife of 68 years, Alice Williams; daughter, Jennifer L. (Ron) Cooper of Highland, IN; grandchildren, Allison Cooper and Chad (Ashli) Cooper; great-grandchildren, Lyla, Draper, Sienna and Theodore; one brother, Melvin. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Hazel Williams, Sr.; twin sister, Janet Louise; brothers, Allen, Jr., Wayne, Richard, Don, and Kenneth “Deac”. He was a 1952 graduate of Portsmouth East High School in Portsmouth, OH. While living in Wheelersburg, OH, Jim worked at Pop’s Place for several years. After moving to Northwest Ohio, he worked at Fostoria Fusee Plant and Excel Logistics both in Fostoria, OH. He also worked at the Sears store in the Findlay Village Mall. While living in Wheelersburg, OH, he sang in the Williams Quartet, singing in churches throughout the area for several years. He was a member of Union Freewill Baptist in Wheelersburg, OH and attended there many years before moving to Northwest Ohio. After that he was a member of Trinity United Brethren Church in Fostoria, OH, and then Stonebridge Church of God, and College First Church of God in Findlay, OH. After moving to Northwest Indiana, he became a member of Lake Hills Baptist Church in Schererville, IN. In all the churches he attended he served on several boards and committees and was a trusted voice in church affairs. His relationship with Jesus Christ was evident in all he did. Jim will be remembered as someone who knew no stranger and had the ability to connect with people in all walks of life. Jim’s family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Memory Lane Funeral Home, 6305 W. Lincoln Hwy., Crown Point, IN from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. with A Celebration of Jim’s Life to follow at 11:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Memory Lane Cemetery. Jim’s family would like to thank Heartland Hospice, for their amazing care. The staff of Heartland Hospice were angels during Jim’s decline. This Easter Sunday Jim got to enjoy Easter in the presence of his Lord and Savior. We will miss him dearly.
